In Loving Memory of Steven Coen 🕊️
With profound sorrow and heavy hearts, the communities of Goodwell and Guymon come together to honor and remember the life of Steven Coen, 49—a dedicated public servant, a compassionate EMT, and a man whose selflessness defined his life.
In the early hours of May 1, 2026, tragedy struck when a house fire engulfed a residence on Aggie Avenue. Firefighters from multiple departments responded swiftly, facing intense flames and heavy smoke upon arrival. In an act that reflects the courage and urgency of first responders, crews entered the burning home and were able to rescue Steven from inside. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by paramedics and his transport to Memorial Hospital of Texas County, he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Steven was not just a victim of this tragic fire—he was a hero in his own right. As a dedicated member of the Guymon Fire Department EMS Division, he spent over a decade answering calls, saving lives, and standing on the front lines in moments when others needed help the most. His work was not just a profession; it was a calling rooted in compassion, courage, and an unwavering commitment to his community.
Beyond his service in Guymon, Steven also gave his time and energy as an EMT in Hooker, Oklahoma. He was known for stepping up whenever he was needed—often covering shifts so fellow responders could rest or be with their families. That quiet generosity spoke volumes about the kind of man he was: dependable, selfless, and always willing to put others before himself.
Those who worked alongside Steven remember him not only for his professionalism but for his character. He was someone you could count on in the most critical moments—steady under pressure, kind in spirit, and deeply respected by his peers. His loss is not only personal but deeply felt across the departments and communities he served so faithfully.
For his family, friends, and fellow first responders, this loss is immeasurable. The pain of losing someone who gave so much to others is profound. Yet, in the midst of grief, there is also pride—pride in the life he lived, the lives he touched, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Steven Coen’s story is one of service, sacrifice, and heart. Though his life was tragically cut short, his impact will endure in every life he helped save, every colleague he supported, and every community he served.
As Goodwell, Guymon, and surrounding areas mourn, they also stand united—honoring a man who gave so much and will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Steven Coen. Your service, your strength, and your spirit will live on.
