North Carolina Angler Tragically Dies Following Boating Incident on Watauga Lake

Family, friends, and the fishing community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Alexander C. Luster, a 36-year-old man from Boone, North Carolina, who tragically lost his life during a boating incident on Watauga Lake in Tennessee.

According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), the incident occurred on Friday, May 8, at approximately 7 p.m. near the Rat Branch boat ramp. Authorities received a report that the operator of a vessel had fallen overboard in a no-wake zone and failed to resurface.

Officials later identified the victim as Alexander C. Luster, who had been participating in a bass tournament prior to the tragic accident. Reports indicate that he fell overboard before the start of the event, sending shockwaves through fellow anglers and everyone present at the lake.

TWRA wardens, along with first responders, quickly arrived at the scene, secured the vessel, and began an intensive search operation in the area where Mr. Luster was last seen. Using a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV), authorities were eventually able to locate him, and divers from the Carter County Rescue Squad recovered his body at approximately 11:35 p.m.

An autopsy has since been ordered, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
