Despite the public scrutiny and personal heartache, he remained a source of stability and love for his family, never wavering in his support. His enduring strength during those turbulent times was a testament to his character and his unwavering commitment to the people he loved most.

It is with heavy hearts that we remember and honor the life of Matthew Janicki, a beloved son, brother, friend, and member of the community whose unexpected passing has left a deep and lasting void. Matthew’s journey was one defined by quiet strength, genuine kindness, and a spirit that brought warmth and light to every room he entered. Though his time with us was far too short, his impact will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generosity, compassion, and unwavering authenticity.

From an early age, Matthew stood out—not by seeking the spotlight, but by offering a listening ear, a helping hand, and a heart that felt deeply. Whether you knew him as a classmate, a coworker, a neighbor, or a lifelong friend, you knew you could count on him. He had a special way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued—never with fanfare, but with the quiet consistency of someone who truly cared.

Matthew had a brilliant mind and a creative soul. He approached life with curiosity and an eagerness to learn, whether it was diving into a new book, mastering a new skill, or having thoughtful conversations about the world and our place in it. But what truly set him apart was his empathy. He instinctively understood when someone needed support, a bit of laughter, or just the comfort of knowing they weren’t alone. He gave of himself freely, without expectation of anything in return.

To his family, Matthew was a cornerstone—a source of love, pride, and comfort. His bond with his loved ones was unbreakable, rooted in shared memories, quiet moments, and unconditional devotion. He was the kind of son who never missed a birthday call, the kind of brother who showed up without being asked, and the kind of relative who made every gathering better simply by being there.

Among his friends, Matthew was a grounding force. His presence offered steadiness in moments of chaos, laughter in times of stress, and sincere advice when it was needed most. He had an unshakable moral compass and a deep sense of right and wrong, and he used it to guide others with empathy rather than judgment. He celebrated his friends’ wins as if they were his own and stood beside them during losses with unwavering loyalty.

Matthew also had an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures—a walk on a quiet morning, good music, a home-cooked meal, or a deep conversation under a starry sky. These small but meaningful joys reminded those around him to slow down, to savor the moment, and to find beauty in the everyday.

Though grief now fills the space his absence has left, we also carry immense gratitude—for having known Matthew, for having loved him, and for having been loved by him. He may no longer be physically present, but his memory endures in every story we share, every act of kindness done in his name, and every life he made better just by being a part of it.

  • In Loving Memory of Matt O’Neill: A Voice That Will Echo Forever

In Loving Memory of Matt O’Neill: A Voice That Will Echo Forever

In Loving Memory of Matt O’Neill: A Voice That Will Echo Forever

Matt O’Neill wasn’t just a radio personality—he was a Calgary institution. Through the familiar and comforting frequency of JACK FM, his voice became a steady companion for countless listeners navigating the rhythms of daily life. Morning after morning, year after year, Matt’s presence on the airwaves was more than just background noise—it was a grounding force, a source of joy, and a spark of connection in a world that can sometimes feel isolating.

His passing leaves behind more than just a silent mic. It leaves a profound emptiness in the world of broadcasting, in the lives of his colleagues and friends, and in the hearts of thousands who invited him into their cars, kitchens, and offices every day. For those who knew him personally, and for those who felt like they did through the magic of radio, the loss is staggering.

Matt didn’t just read scripts. He lived them. He improvised, he played, he felt. Every word he spoke came with intention, with presence, with soul. That’s what made him exceptional. He didn’t just speak at his audience—he spoke to them. And, more importantly, he listened in return. That two-way street of trust and humanity was where Matt thrived.

Whether he was delivering a perfectly timed joke that left listeners grinning behind their steering wheels, riffing on a quirky news story, or pausing just long enough to say something honest and unexpectedly profound, Matt made sure that every single listener felt like they were part of something bigger. He wasn’t there to simply entertain—he was there to connect. That’s not just talent. That’s heart.

What Matt gave to Calgary can’t be measured in ratings or airtime. It lives in the shared laughs during a morning commute. It lives in the quiet moments when his voice reminded someone they weren’t alone. It lives in the way he brought people together—across airwaves, across differences, and across daily routines that felt just a little lighter because of him.

Behind the mic, Matt was every bit as remarkable. A warm, generous soul, he was deeply loyal to those he cared about. He built friendships that lasted, that meant something. He gave more than he took. And he did it all with a humility that only made you admire him more.

But perhaps the role he cherished most was that of a father. He often spoke about his children on and off the air—not as a way to fill time, but because they were the center of his universe. The love he had for his family shone through in every word, every story, every expression of pride. Matt didn’t just talk about being a dad—he was a dad, in every sense of the word. Steady, devoted, beaming with pride, and endlessly supportive.

There’s something uniquely intimate about radio. You don’t just hear a voice—you invite it into your life. And for so many of us, Matt’s voice was a part of our story. He was there on the best days, helping celebrate the little joys. He was there on the hard days, offering levity and comfort when we needed it most. That is a gift not many can give. And Matt gave it freely, consistently, and wholeheartedly.

To his beloved family, our deepest condolences. May you find solace in the outpouring of love from a community that felt Matt’s light. His was a rare kind of presence—the kind that doesn’t fade but reverberates. Through memories, through stories, through the invisible thread of connection he so skillfully spun across the airwaves, Matt O’Neill will continue to echo.

And to Matt—thank you. Thank you for being exactly who you were. Thank you for the laughter, the sincerity, the silliness, and the soul. Thank you for showing us what it means to lead with heart.

Your mic may be silent, but your voice lives on—in the city you loved, in the hearts you touched, and in the morning air that still carries your spirit. Rest easy, Matt. You were truly one of a kind.

  • REDC Mourns the Sudden Loss of President Laurel Adams, A Visionary Leader and Champion for Community Growth

REDC Mourns the Sudden Loss of President Laurel Adams, A Visionary Leader and Champion for Community Growth

REDC Mourns the Sudden Loss of President Laurel Adams, A Visionary Leader and Champion for Community Growth

It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Laurel Adams, President of the Regional Economic Development Center (REDC) of New Hampshire. Laurel’s unexpected departure has left an indelible void in our organization, our community, and in the many lives she touched through her dedication, compassion, and visionary leadership.

We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Laurel’s three beloved sons, her parents, extended family, friends, and to all those mourning this immeasurable loss. Laurel was not just a colleague or a leader—she was a source of strength, warmth, and unwavering support to those privileged to know her.

Laurel Adams devoted nearly 25 years of her professional life to REDC, where she transformed the organization into one of New Hampshire’s most impactful and inclusive economic development institutions. Her leadership was marked by integrity, vision, and empathy, all of which guided REDC through years of growth and meaningful community impact. Under Laurel’s stewardship, the organization saw unprecedented expansion in every area—services offered, funding secured, partnerships developed, businesses supported, and staff inspired.

More than metrics or milestones, however, Laurel’s legacy lies in her commitment to people. She was a tireless advocate for small businesses, especially those led by women, minorities, immigrants, and underserved communities. She believed in economic empowerment as a pathway to opportunity and dignity, and her efforts opened doors for countless entrepreneurs across the state. Laurel’s work wasn’t just about business—it was about building a better New Hampshire for everyone, regardless of background or means.

Her efforts did not go unnoticed. Laurel was honored earlier this year as the Nonprofit Leader of the Year by New Hampshire Business Magazine, a testament to her outstanding contributions to the nonprofit and economic development sectors. Over the years, she also received the New Hampshire 200 Award, the Daniel Quinlan Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community and Regional Planning, the SBA Financial Services Champion Award, and recognition as a Union Leader 40 Under 40 recipient. Each of these accolades reflects just a fraction of the dedication, passion, and excellence she brought to her role.

“Laurel had uncommon energy, vision, wisdom, and compassion, and she applied those attributes to causes that have made a difference in the lives of so many,” said REDC Vice President Daniel Gray. “Laurel cared deeply for those around her and treated staff like family. Our hearts are broken. We will continue to pay tribute to Laurel’s legacy through the ongoing work of REDC.”

Scott Zeller, REDC Chair, shared, “We are heartbroken by the loss of Laurel. Not only was she a colleague and leader, but a wonderful friend. We will navigate this difficult time side by side, with compassion and care for one another.”

Beyond her achievements and accolades, Laurel was admired for her authenticity, generosity, humility, and perseverance. Her ability to lead with strength and softness simultaneously inspired those around her to do better, to be better. She made room for everyone at the table, and she listened—truly listened—with care, patience, and an open heart.

Laurel led by example, balancing strength with grace. She believed in showing up—whether it was to champion an underfunded startup, mentor a new staff member, or support a struggling colleague. She celebrated others’ successes, lifted them in moments of doubt, and created a workplace culture grounded in respect, collaboration, and purpose.

Her passing is not only a loss to REDC, but to the entire state of New Hampshire. Yet, even in grief, we are filled with gratitude—for the time we had with her, for the vision she shared, and for the countless lives she improved simply by being who she was.

In the weeks and months to come, REDC will continue the work Laurel loved so deeply—with the same passion, fairness, and humanity that she brought every single day. Her spirit will live on in every small business launched, every community initiative undertaken, and every life made better by the work she helped build.
