In Loving Memory of John Michael Unrein

Family, friends, and members of the Lane County community are mourning the tragic loss of John Michael Unrein, 46, of Springfield, who lost his life in a devastating three-vehicle crash on Highway 126 on Monday, June 15, 2026.

According to the Oregon State Police, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 3:53 p.m. near milepost 52 on Highway 126 in Lane County. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a serious crash involving three vehicles.

Preliminary findings indicate that John was driving a red Mazda3 westbound near Fisher Road when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed the center line into the eastbound lane. His vehicle collided head-on with a white Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 51-year-old woman from Veneta. The force of the impact caused the Chevrolet to roll over before coming to rest in the westbound lane. Moments later, John’s vehicle continued in the eastbound lane, where it was involved in a second head-on collision with a red Hyundai Elantra driven by a 23-year-old woman.

The tragic chain of events has left the community in shock and deep sorrow, as loved ones struggle to come to terms with the sudden and heartbreaking loss.

John Michael Unrein will be remembered for the life he lived, the connections he made, and the memories he leaves behind in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His passing is a painful reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly it can change.

During this difficult time, heartfelt condolences are extended to his family, friends, and all who are grieving. May they find strength, comfort, and peace in the days ahead, and may John’s memory continue to live on in the love he shared with others.

May he rest in peace.
