In Loving Memory of Connor Sandrock & Benjamin Sandrock

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, the Whiteside County community mourns the tragic loss of Connor Sandrock and Benjamin Sandrock, beloved family members whose lives were taken far too soon in a devastating train accident near Savanna, Illinois.

On April 13, 2026, Connor and Benjamin were involved in a fatal collision at a private railroad crossing near Illinois Route 84, across from the Savanna Tri-Township Airport. According to authorities, the pickup truck they were traveling in—pulling a boat and trailer—was struck by a southbound train as it crossed the tracks. Both occupants tragically lost their lives as a result of the crash.

The suddenness of this tragedy has left family, friends, and the wider community in deep grief, struggling to come to terms with such an unimaginable loss.

Benjamin G. Sandrock, 50, of rural Lyndon, Illinois, was a devoted husband, father, and hardworking man whose life centered on faith, family, and farming. He worked alongside his loved ones at Sandrock Farms and had a deep passion for agriculture, especially raising Angus cattle. He was known for his strong values, warm spirit, and the pride he took in building a life rooted in love and dedication.

Connor Sandrock, his son, shared in that same life—working beside his father and carrying forward the family’s legacy. Together, they formed an unbreakable bond not only as family, but as partners in life and labor, creating memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew them.

Their passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. They will be remembered for their kindness, their work ethic, their love of family, and the joy they brought into the lives of others.

As the investigation into the accident continues, the focus remains on honoring their lives and supporting those left behind.

May Connor and Benjamin Sandrock be forever remembered, deeply missed, and eternally loved.
